MY STORY

Venesa Samuda is a Servant, committed to the divine purpose over her life. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, she moved to the States at the tender age of 6. Days after being here, her mother said, “you are black, you are a woman and you are an immigrant; you have to work hard.” Fueled by those words she pursued her education with reckless abandonment.

Upon graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a graduate degree and a career in Sports Business. Just a few months later, she started feeling fatigued, lightheaded, anxious, and a slew of other symptoms. She was urged by her mother to return home (upstate New York) to get well. It took 6 months but Venesa was diagnosed with Graves Disease, a thyroid and autoimmune disorder that affects 1% of people in the United States. Her thyroid was unresponsive to treatments and medication. In June 2012, she received a full thyroidectomy, complete removal of the thyroid. Though it was a life-saving surgery, it resulted in a list of other health issues, including depression. Her mission is to raise awareness of thyroid disease and mental health. She hopes to motivate those struggling with chronic illnesses. “I’m so appreciative of the days that I do feel well because there are too many days when I don’t. This disease has completely changed my life”

Once Venesa was well enough, she returned to New York City to complete her Master’s degree in Sports Management. It is through her everyday battle with this illness that she has found her passion and more importantly her purpose. “I’m finally ready to step into my greatness”

Venesa is a true example of taking what life throws and fighting back. Through the word, both spoken and written she will inspire you to be the best you, no matter the odds.
